It seems odd over the past few weeks to see pictures of snow, ice, jackets, hats, gloves, and sweaters as we are experiencing warm weather. Although, we have seen our share of Dominicans with hats and jackets during their winter season. Before long, we will be joining them in wearing jackets below seventy degrees! It is refreshing to enjoy the holidays, but it is also nice to settle back into our normal routines. We have continued with our Spanish classes three times a week. It is very helpful to be able to put into practice immediately what we have learned, helping cement it in our minds. Tim was able to substitute in the 6th and 8th grade Bible classes for the first few weeks of January, and he was very appreciative that their textbooks accompanying their Bibles are in English! Please pray as the school is not only an outreach into the community but also another way to disciple the next generation in the Word of God.
Work is ongoing in preparation to renovate the new church building for our arrival. We are anticipating our first church services there in February. Renovation will continue in the adjacent building through the end of March to make ready for the school and seminary to move to the new facilities. We covet your prayers in this process and as we seek to reach this new neighborhood with the gospel. We have already been able to contact and invite some who live in our neighborhood (the new church property is in the same city block where we live).
Tim has enjoyed the opportunity to preach at New Life Baptist Church through a translator. These wonderful believers have helped us in so many ways in setting up our home, learning the culture, developing relationships, and in practicing our Spanish every week. Some of the messages from the past few months can be found here.
We can not thank you enough for your prayers and support for our family. Many of you sacrificially gave more to us for Christmas. Thank you! Please help us in praying for the following things:
- Language learning
- Building renovation
- Outreach into our neighborhood
- Health for our family
Also, we have received our Vonage number in order to remain in contact with those in the United States. Feel free to contact us at (757)-216-9213.
